Stage 6: feedback. As the research has proven (Green et al., 2014), feedback is key for the acquisition of language. It gives the students a chance to use feedback in order to revise and improve their work, thus improving their understanding and learning. Roman and Callison (2014) pose several benefits to online critiques, three of which will be developed throughout the project through the interactive nature of Google Docs. First, student work is of higher quality due to the repeating cycle of regular feedback and revision. Second, through observation of others work and giving feedback, students improve upon their own. Lastly, feedback can be used for both formative and summative assessment by the teacher (p. 14).
Students will receive feedback at three different times during the project:
1.) between group members during the writing process,
2.) from their peers overseas when they edit each others work, and
3.) when they upload their vidcast for parents, teachers and peers to view.
Repeat. The students will repeat the process from stage 1 – 6, however the second time around they will have the choice of several UNICEF videos as their topic for their own vidcast. Considering that not all students may be ready to work independently, the teacher will choose a specific video and have certain groups work alongside her through the different stages using the chosen video. Those that are ready to try the process on their own with their own choice of video will be able.
